Tilicho Lake, (4919 m), is the highest and biggest lake in a trekking route of the Himalayas, it falls on the side route of the Annapurna Circuit Trekking route, the second most popular trekking route of Nepal Himalayas, or falls on the way to cross Mesokanto La (5245 m) or Manda La Pass (5460 m) to Jomsom. Situated in the Manang district of Western Nepal in the Gandaki zone is just a 6 to 7 hrs trek from the last village en route to Khangsar, or 3 to 4 hours trek from the lodges from Tilicho Base Camp. The 3.9 km long, 1.6 km broad, 4.8 sq km covered area, the volume of 155 x 106 liter approx and 85 m deep lake with fresh water, has its water source mainly from Tilicho Glacier of Tilicho Peak (7135 m), Mesokanto and Idam-phara peaks situated at the left, front and right. Tilicho Glacier is also one of the sources of Marsyangdy River which flows almost all throughout the route of Annapurna Circuit Route. This beautiful pure blue lake surprisingly has no aquatic organisms (mainly due to excessive cold) and very little flora and fauna in and around, such flora as oxygraphis, alpine buttercup, primerose, primulagentine, etc and fauna mainly blue sheep and rarely snow leopard, and some avifauna as Himalayan snow cock, alpine chough, migratory demoiselle crane, are found. There is a tea shop cum lodge near the lake, and some more are being constructed mainly for trekkers and tourist convenience, which mainly remain open during the season, at an altitude of 4990 m.

CIRCUIT GOKYO ~ CONNECTING NANGPA, GOKYO, THAMCHO VALLEY ~ NEPAL, MAY 2023
What happens when you successfully explore a new col, when you connect another known pass with it to connect three valleys and make a circuit trek, when you trek through a virgin route and valley and view and capture some breathtaking sights, with excellent landscapes, towering Himalayan peaks of Nepal and Tibet, adventurous trek route, crossing a new col, flora, and fauna, get to meet some world-famous sherpas (some who have climbed Mt. Everest 22 times and all the 14 eight thousand peaks), know about the local habitats ?? ~ it was something which will be cherished for long. Above all, when the highest authority of Nepal Trekking and Expedition, TAAN (Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal) acknowledges us with an appreciation certificate for our exploration, the joy is much sweeter.
Along with Partha Sarathi Moulik, with the able guidance and support of Mr. Binod Karki (he was with us who guided) of Himalayan Adventure Intl Treks and one porter, we self-supported and conducted with GPS and map, successfully explored and crossed a new col, for the first time ~ THONAK LA (5416 m), on 29th May 2023, which connects Nangpa Valley with Gokyo Valley, to reach Thonak Tso and then Gokyo Lake. This col is not so technically difficult to cross from Nangpa to Gokyo Valley as the other passes in the nearby area, which are technical. Then trek from Gokyo Lake to Thamcho Valley by crossing the known Renjo Pass (5435 m) on 31st May 2023.
Thus, we connected the three beautiful valleys of the Khumbu area in Nepal, namely Nangpa, Gokyo, and Thamcho Valley in a circuit named GOKYO CIRCUIT. Thamcho and Nangpa Valley are less visited, Becoz, only when a few trekkers complete two passes Tashi Lapcha which ends at Thame, and Renjo Pass which ends at Lungden and Thame. Nangpa Valley is hardly visited. Thus, this beautiful, adventurous but much easier trek route can attract many trekkers tourists in the future.
Our route was Salleri ~ Thamdanda (jeep) ~ Paiya, Chheubas ~ Phakding ~ Namche Bazar ~ Thame ~ Lungden ~ Sumna Phu ~ cross new col Thonak La ~ Thonak Tso ~ Gokyo ~ cross Renjo Pass ~ Lungden (lunch) ~ Thame Teng ~ Namche Bazar ~ Lukla ~ Kathmandu

Langtang Valley is situated in the mountains of north-central Nepal, in Bagmati province. The valley lies within the Langtang National Park, which borders Tibet. The trail from Syabrubesi to Ghoratabela goes by the side of Langtang Khola, through the dense forest of bamboo, oak, maple, pine, and various types of rhododendron. Animals found in this jungle are Himalayan black bears, snow leopards, yak, red pandas,s and various species of birds. After Ghoratabela, the valley widens up with a picturesque view of the mighty Himalayas. The local inhabitants of the Langtang Valley refer to each other as 'Langtangpa'. They generally follow Tibetan Buddhism and speak the Tibetan language. The Langtangpas regard Mt. Langtang Lirung as their 'yu-lha', their local country god. Langtang Valley is believed to be the Beyul Dagam Namgo, one of the many hidden valleys blessed by Guru Padmasambhava. The traditional livelihoods of the Langtangpas have centered around agropastoralism. Swiss cheese-making was introduced in Langtang in the 1950s by Werner Schulthess. Over time, Swiss cheese became a popular product of Langtang, and its production in the valley continues to this day. The nearest motorable road-head for the Langtang valley is Syabrubesi. The distance of Syabrubesi from Kathmandu is 125 km. But due to bad road conditions, it usually takes 7-8 hours to drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Bus leaves every day from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi at 6 am to 8 am as well as other defined times. The bus station in Kathmandu is called the ‘New Bus Station’. Bus fare is NC 1040 per person. The Langtang Valley requires everyone except locals to have the TIMS permit (to be done from Kathmandu) and the Langtang National Park entry permit (to be done at Dhunche at NC 1500 person for the SAARC region). By early 2018, the centuries-old gompa at Kyanjin Gompa, which had been destroyed in the earthquake, had been rebuilt. The Swiss-cheese factory at Kyanjin Gompa village was destroyed too but has been rebuilt and become operational again. The Tea Houses, are available along the way where one can sleep in a comfortable bed with blankets, and have access to showers (at extra charge) and restaurant facilities. Most of the villages are Tibetan, which gave us a great insight into their unique culture. Wifi costs anywhere from free to NC300 to use wifi at the guesthouses. NTC Sim worked in most spots after Rimche with a weak signal. The mountain seen on the trail is Mt. Langshisha, Mt. Langtang Lirung, Kiyanjin Ri, Tsergori, Yala Peak, Ganesh Himal, and many more.
Our itinerary was
Day 1 Kolkata to Kathmandu
Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1550m) 8 hours by bus Syabrubesi to Rimche (2,500m) 6 hours (stayed at Ganesh View Hotel & Lodge)
Day 3: Rimche to Langtang Gompa (3600 meters) via Ghoratabela 7 hours (stayed at Langtang View guest house)
Day 4: Langtang Gompa to Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) 6 hours. (Stayed at Moonlight Guest House) Day 5: Kyanjin Gompa Day 6: Kyanjin Gompa to Langtang Lirung Lake and down to Ghoratabela (3030 m) 6 hrs (stayed at hotel Tibetan)
Day 7: Ghoratabela to Syabrubesi (1550m) 7 hours
Day 8: Drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu for 7 hours.
Day 9- Kathmandu
Day 10 - Kathmandu to Kolkata Note: There is an army and police check post at Dhunche where they check the permits and travelers' bags and rucksacks. At Ghoratabela there is another police check post where the permits are checked and thereafter allow the trekkers to move ahead. In the entire route starting from Syabrubesi foods are quite expensive where dal - bhat costs NC 600-700, one cup of black tea at NC 150, and one piece of boiled egg at NC 200. In Langtang Gompa and Kiyanjin electricity is available and mobiles can be charged without any extra cost. Our trek was organized by Mr. Binod Karki. Himalayan Adventure Intl Treks

THE OTHER ABC & KHOPRA DANDA TREK, NEPAL, NOVEMBER 2021 ~ AN OFFBEAT EXPERIENCE ~
SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED, Following the footsteps of Maurice Herzog to Annapurna, 71 yrs after the first ascent of an 8000 m peak, in November 2021 ~ Pokhara, in Nepal, is the launching pad for numerous expeditions to the Anapurnas, and the starting point for treks. But 71 years ago, when Nepal was still under Rana rule and a French expedition came to climb Annapurna, its climbers did not come directly here at Pokhara. They marched straight up from Butwal in Tarai. In December 2020, a 25-member team from the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN) Pokhara Chapter and Annapurna Rural Municipality set out to explore North Annapurna Base Camp. The idea was to use the pandemic lull to find new trekking destinations and to develop this historic route. The trail we took would follow the footsteps of the French Annapurna Expedition of 1950, and re-enact their march – into the mountain. It is known as the Maurice Herzog Trail, after the climber, Louis Lachenal made the first ascent of an 8000 m peak – two years before Mt. Everest itself was climbed.
Our own journey began from Pokhara, with a 5-hour bus ride to Tatopani, and then to Lower Narchyang, Upper Narchyang, to Chhotepa our destination for the day. And like trekking in most of Nepal, it is one steep climb and followed by another steep descent. Then comes Hum Khola, Phutphutey waterfalls, Sandhikharka, Phoolbari, Busket Mela, and finally North Annapurna Base Camp at approx 4400 m. It’s a camping trek.
Herzog recounts in Annapurna the heroic life-and-death struggle with primitive equipment and violent weather to get to the summit at 2 pm on 3rd June 1950. His team entered by this forgotten side, though he returned by Lete side, we preferred to return by the same route as we wanted to trek for another offbeat and less accessed new route from Tatopani ~ to Khopra Danda (3900 m approx). Via Swanta village (one of the best picturesque villages with a Dhaulagiri massif view), we trekked up to Chistibung, then to Khopra Danda (the best and nearest panoramic and amphitheatric view of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Massifs so closely placed), with tea houses in all the spots. And return through Bailey Kharka (another best spot for the Dhaulagiri view), Dobato (with Mulde Peak viewpoint of the two massifs), Tadapani, and Ghandrung to back Pokhara. That’s the circuit we wanted to make.
The whole trek was an awesome one with excellent views of lofty high various peaks and beautiful landscapes. I would like to thank my co-trekkers Soumendu Chatterjee, Subhasis Sathpaty, Madhusudan Das, Sourav Dutta, Arijit Dutta, Meenakshi Sarkar, Subhajit Chaudhuri, Projesh Biswas, and Sharmistha Ghosh for completing such an exclusive picturesque trek route of Nepal. And finally, I would like to Thank Himalayan Adventure Intl Treks and Binod Karki and Sumit Mukherjee for all their support, guidance, and assistance in Nepal.

Mardi Himal Trek - A Mobile Sneak Peak... Successfully completed one of the best picturesque and rhododendron bloom ridge treks, with amphitheatrical views of peaks like South Annapurna, Hiunchuli, Tarke Kang, Tare Kang, Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Machapuchare, Mardi Himal, Annapurna IV, II and many more, like the glimpse of Dhaulagiri. A hidden gem to get off to the beaten track in the Annapurna region, trekking through the risky ridge to the Base Camp, is much worthier than the popular ABC trek. With the teammates Subhamoy Ghosh (leader), Satyajit Das, Subojit Ghosh, Sohan Chakraborty, Sharmistha Ghosh, Rahul Barua, Manoj Dey, Subir Kumar Ghosh on April 2022-Organizer Binod and Himalayan Adventure Intl Treks Thanks.

MORIMOTO BASE CAMP ( 4780 M) & TSERGO RI / TSERKO RI (CHERGORI) (4984 M), LANGTANG VALLEY, NEPAL ~ Successfully completed this less trodden trek in Oct-Nov 2022. Taking the path less trodden sometimes means coming to the point where the average tourist stops and venturing beyond. Most trekkers get up to Lamtang/Langtang village or Kyangjin Gompa and are stuck up by the views all around. Not that it is not a beautiful place to take a break: the views are out of this world. But after a day or two, if you itch to move on to see what is around the bend in the valley, you must swing past Kyangjin (3830 m) and Langshisha Kharka (4240 m), you start getting an indication of what is a high altitude Himalayan trek is all about. 360 degrees of mountain views, so spectacular that, they seem to have been chiseled in heaven by the Gods. Two such exquisite views we got. One from Morimoto Base Camp at 4780m which is a day beyond Langshisha Kharka from where one can see the panorama of peaks like Triangle (20571 ft), Ramthang Karpo Ri (22524 ft), Langshisha Ri (21064 ft), Morimoto (20181 ft), Bhandang Ri (21178 ft) and Gangchen Po (20712 ft). Another, trek to the 5011 m viewpoint of Tsergo Ri / Tserko Ri (Chergori), which is one of the 7 best viewpoints in Nepal Himalayas, along with Kalapathar, Gokyo Ri, Chhukung Ri, Tsergo Ri, Khopra Danda, Poon Hill, and Kyangjin Ri, from where one can see one of the most beautiful 360-degree views of peaks in sequence, like Langtang Lirung (23711 ft), Kimshung (22247 ft), Ubra (20551 ft), Yansa Tsenji (21545 ft), Shalbachum (21923 ft), Yala Peak (18045 ft), Ramthang Karpo Ri (22523 ft), Langshisha Ri (21063 ft), Gurkapo Ri (22608 ft), Loenpo Gang (22897 ft), Dorje Lakpa (22854 ft), Kanshurm (19941 ft), Ganchen Po (20712 ft), Dshabu Ri (16152 ft), Pangen Dopku (19449 ft), Ganja La Chuli (18543 ft), Naya Kanga (19180 ft), Baden Powell Scout Peak (18734 ft), Chimisedan Lek (18448 ft). What more can we expect? And after the 2015 earthquake, this valley has been one of the most iconic trek routes in the Nepal Himalayas. As you hurry back down to the town, city, or home, racing through the descending darkness, the presence of the magnificent peaks doesn't leave you. It leaves a mark on your soul forever. I thank my team members Soumendu Chatterjee, Partha Sarathi Moulik, Sumit Mukherjee, Ajoy Chakraborty, Madhusudan Das, Pulak Pakrashi, Tapan Ballav, Subhajit Chaudhuri and Pratyay Rakshit. And thanks to our guide and philosopher Binod Karki, and Himalayan Adventure Intl Treks, who helped us personally with this trek. These are some casual mobile shots of the venture

Up to now, I did three trekking with Binod and his agency Himalayan Adventure Intl Treks. One was the Makalu Base Camp and crossing the Sherpani col and Mera Peak. The other was Upper Mustang with the Jomson part of the Annapurna Base Camp and the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Binod is a very good guide, knowing all the routes by heart, and very friendly too. He also is a very nice young man to talk to with good proficiency in the English language.

The trip is amazing, the views, the people, the culture the sense of pride making it to Upper Dolpo, with the whole experience handled masterfully by our guide Pramod.
Himalayan Adventure Intl Treks is owned and operated by local Nepalese - they know the culture and all the lodge managers better than any other company, so you get excellent service. Our guide Pramod was fluent in English and knows every nook and cranny of the Dolpo Region. He has a wonderful sense of humor, always smiling, and is also highly medically trained. He had everything in his medical kit box to assist and get our bud well.
